Drill pay, annual training, Tricare, and total annual compensation
Estimated Annual Guard/Reserve Compensation
One drill weekend = 4 drill periods. Each drill period pays 1/30th of your monthly base pay. For an E-5 with 4 years, that's approximately $131 per period or $526 per drill weekend.
Not for drill weekends. BAH is only paid during activation/mobilization (30+ consecutive days of active duty) and during annual training if orders specify BAH entitlement. When activated, you receive the same BAH as active duty based on your duty station or home ZIP.
TRS is health insurance available to all Selected Reserve members. Family coverage costs $296.86/month (2026) — compared to $1,500-$2,000+/month for comparable civilian employer family coverage. This makes TRS one of the most valuable Guard/Reserve benefits, saving $14,000-$20,000+/year in health insurance costs.
